Milwaukee to Host AAMP Show

By Steve Delmont, 31 May, 1994

It's a near-perfect fit-like brat-wurst in a bun. Milwaukee, home to some of the country's top sausage-makers, plays host to the 55th American Convention of Meat Processors, July 28 to 31.

The convention, sponsored by the American Association of Meat Processors, is for small and mid-sized meat, poultry and food business operators. It will be held at the Milwaukee Exposition & Convention Center & Arena.

The 3-1/2 day event will feature timely educational programs, a suppliers' exhibition and the American Cured Meat Championships.

Educational programs include seminars on cutting and merchandising pork in the '90s, non-meat proteins, smokehouse operations, selecting the best casings and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point programs.

Nearly 100 suppliers will display meat and food industry supplies, equipment and services. Exhibition hours are 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday, July 28; 12:30 to 4 p.m., Friday, July 29; and 12:30 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 30.

Convention registration is required for admission into the exhibit hall. Registered delegates will be eligible for cash or membership prizes.

A highlight of the convention is the American Cured Meat Champion-ships. AAMP members, who smoke and/or cure meat and poultry products are eligible for the competition, which includes categories featuring: hams, bacons, sausages, ring bologna, dried beef, jerky, snack sticks, smoked turkey and luncheon meat. New categories include bratwurst, and a sectioned and formed ham category.

Attendees are encouraged to register for the convention by June 27. For more information, call AAMP at 717/367-1168.

During their free time, convention attendees may be interested in visiting the 14th annual German Fest, which runs July 29 to 31 at the Maier Festival Park on Milwaukee's lakefront. The event is billed as the largest ethnic German festival in North America.
