San Francisco plays host to AMI Convention and Innovation Showcase

Four educational conferences will be held concurrently during AMI's 1994 Convention and Innovation Showcase. The program will take place Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at the San Francisco Hyatt Regency in Embarcardero Center.

Twenty-four sessions from the four conferences will focus on topic areas, such as new technologies to assure food safety, addressing the environment, proactive public relations and managing crisis, and new strategies and tactics for distributing and merchandising products.

The Meat Industry Research Conference is geared specifically for meat scientists; diet, health and nutrition experts; and industry R&D managers. The conference, coproduced by AMI and the American Meat Science Association, will contain sessions on government's and industry's role in food safety; research initiatives; automation in microbiology; innovative technology; and enhancing product acceptability.

The Environmental Conference will focus on how industry can best respond to government regulations addressing the environment. It is designed for top executives, plant managers, engineers, quality assurance and quality control managers, and regulatory and compliance personnel.

Session topics include outlining regulatory responsibilities confronting meat companies; practical ideas on how to reuse water and prevent pollution (innovative technologies will be outlined); examining cost-effective and streamlined approaches in complying with the Clean Air Act; and an outline of the many measures contained in the Clean Water Act, which is expected to force stringent application of new technologies.

Appearing for the first time, the Public Relations and Crisis Management Conference is geared to help industry CEOs; sales and marketing executives; legal staff; and operations, quality control, public relations and regulatory compliance personnel develop a cohesive approach to public relations.

Cutting costs is a goal of every meat company. The new Marketing and Distribution Conference will provide a comprehensive review of Efficient Consumer Response and other technology-based systems impacting meat marketing and distribution. Designed for industry leaders, as well as sales, marketing, distribution and financial personnel, the conference will cover ECR and ECR-supporting technologies; physical distribution issues; and a review of software and systems.

In addition, the premiere Innovation Showcase will spotlight new introductions in ingredients, computer software and hardware, quality control instrumentation, environmental equipment and supplies, sanitation supplies, lab testing equipment and services, safety/ergonomic supplies and services, product labeling equipment and supplies, new processing and packaging equipment components, business services and consultants.
