Fair Game for All

One of the meat industry's most important expositions -the International Trade Fair for the Meat Industry-takes place in May in Germany

IFFA-the International Trade Fair for the Meat Industry-takes place May 20 to 25 in Frankfurt, Germany, and is being billed as "the world's largest trade fair for the meat industry."

"Those people who are looking for the latest trends in slaughter, processing, packaging and sales should note IFFA in their diaries," IFFA promoters advise.

Wide range of exhibits

More than 850 exhibitors from around the world will be highlighting their products and services. In general, exhibits will target professionals in meat and sausage processing, preservation industry, large-scale slaughtering establishments, abattoirs and butcher establishments.

Specifically, exhibits will include the latest in slaughterhouse and abattoir equipment; butchery machines; equipment for cooking, boiling and baking; smoking systems; spices and other ingredients; cutting instruments; sausage skins and threads; pickling devices and equipment; preservation systems; packaging; transport vehicles and equipment; technical equipment and furnishings for catering, party services, snack bar operations, miscellaneous butchery equipment; office goods; and meat and deli products.

IFFA is becoming more international. The number of foreign exhibitors is steadily increasing. And the qualification and decision-making authority of the visitors are continuously on the rise. Asked about their authority to make decisions with regard to investments, 67 percent of the German visitors and 82 percent of the foreign guests from the 1992 IFFA show said they were involved in purchasing decisions made by their companies.

IFFA Delicat will also take place during this time. The international delicatessen salon has been specifically addressing the needs of the butcher trade since 1986. Its forum is a genuine delicatessen fair, and it is reserved exclusively for food buyers.

A wide range of products and services will be housed in Hall 4 of IFFA '95 where master butchers from the international butchery trade will convene.

Buyers of meat and sausage products, as well as meat specialties, will find the ideal forum for their products at IFFA Delicat, convention promoters claim. Many butcher shops are extending their current range of products to include externally purchased items, such as raw sausage and salami. Delicacies in aspic, gelatin, meat pies and other products will be on display.

In addition to beef, veal and pork, meats such as poultry, lamb and venison are in consumer demand. IFFA Delicat offers a growing market in culinary delights. Other products on display at IFFA Delicat will include sausages, ham, bacon, spices, cereal products, sauces, salads, dressings and ready-made meals.

Review of IFFA '92

The 1992 IFFA show featured 831 exhibitors from 20 countries exhibited during the fair. The United States was represented by 31 exhibitors-almost triple the number that attended IFFA '89. About 60 percent of the U.S. exhibitors displayed goods for processing, slaughter, transportation and storage sectors.

During IFFA '92, North American suppliers showcased products to the European and world markets.

The fair is considered the gateway to Eastern Europe, attracting an ever-growing number of buyers.

More than 82 percent of meat producing countries in Central and South America were in attendance. The 1992 show attracted 67,121 visitors from 96 countries. More than 43,650 visitors from Germany attended.
